Animation News

So roughly two weeks ago now, I entered into an animation competition that was being judged by the Creative Director of Shaun the Sheep, Golly Starzak.

A selection of 62 farm yard sound effects were provided by letnaturefeedyoursenses.org and entrants had to use a minimum of one sound effect to inspire and use in their animations which could last no longer than 60 seconds. Sound effects from other sources were not permitted but you could use as many of the provided sounds as you liked.

I spent four nights filming my entry on the dining room table to create a total of 37 seconds of film. I spent between 2 and 4 hours each night animating. The purpose of filming at night was to ensure I could have complete control over the light source so that "flicker" was not an issue when the animation was watched back.

I submitted my animation on June 20th and by June 27th I had received an email congratulating me on being shortlisted for the 17-25 age group catagory. (For anyone unaware, I am 25)
That was fantastic news in itself!

Today I received a phonecall from a woman named Lynsey. She was calling about the competition to let me know that I was the winner of my age catagory! I HAD WON!

So this is my news; I HAVE BEEN CHOSEN, BY THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF SHAUN THE SHEEP AT AARDMAN ANIMATIONS, AS THE WINNER OF THE 17-25 CATAGORY!!!

Ok, so I'm not sure how many people stumble on my blog here but just in case anyone does, I've recently submitted a design to Patch Together. Hopefully this embedding code will work...

SimSocial

As part of the marketing campain by EA for the new Sims 3 game due for release on June 2nd (5th in the UK) SimSocial has been released. It's basically a mini-game on the web.
You start by creating a Sim from a few limited options and then basically follow them through their life. All of the events appear on a PDA/mobile phone type interface. Unless you are already into the Sims franchise then this could become very boring very quickly. I'm finding it a very enjoyable time waster though. My Sim has already got a hmself a girlfriend which has unlocked the ability to spend the evening having a romantic meal or watching a romantic movie. The fact that she is a kleptomaniac doesn't seem to have shown any effect yet but she has helped him to get a better job. Well, same thing but different place with better pay.

If you want to go and check it out then you can do here> SimSocial

One last thing, you will need an EA account to play and save your game. If you don't have one then it lets you create one when you begin.

P.S. Save often! It seems to force you to take a ten minute break roughly every Sim fortnight and the autosave doesn't always work. Even if it says it does.

Whirled

Hello all. Fancy checking out a new website? Why not have a look at Whirled? I joined a few months ago to take part in a deviantART contest and really like the games they have there.

If you have the abilities (or even if you don't, it doesn't seem to bother most users) then you can create and upload your own avatars, rooms and furniture items which you can then list in the shop. If you get enough sales then it should eventually be possible to cash out the coins for real money. I have no idea how many coins are needed to make up a convertable amount but then thats not why I'm doing it.
